Samsung Eyes 100 Million Galaxy A Series Sales in India by Year-End, Fueled by AI-Enabled A17 5G
New Delhi, Sept 2, 2025 — Samsung is aiming to surpass 100 million Galaxy A series smartphones sold in India by December 2025, driven by strong demand and the recent launch of its most affordable AI-powered smartphone yet — the Galaxy A17 5G.
According to Raju Pullan, Senior Vice President of Samsung India’s MX Business, the company has already sold an estimated 96 million units of the Galaxy A series in India since its launch in 2019, up until June 2025.
“Galaxy A17 5G will be the most affordable AI smartphone in the A series,” said Pullan. “It’s also the largest portfolio of smartphones within the Samsung lineup. Our goal is to cross the 100 million unit mark for A series sales in India by the end of the year.”
AI Features Powering the Push
Samsung is banking on new AI-enabled features in the Galaxy A17 5G to boost its appeal among value-conscious users. The phone includes tools like ‘Circle to Search’ (in collaboration with Google) and Gemini Live, which allows real-time visual conversations with AI.
The Galaxy A17 5G is priced between ₹18,999 and ₹23,499, and comes equipped with a 50MP main camera with Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS), often called the “no-shake cam”, an Exynos 1330 processor, and a 5000mAh battery.
Festive Season to Play Key Role
Samsung expects the upcoming festive season (spanning 30–45 days) to be crucial, potentially contributing 22–25% of its annual smartphone business in India.
“This festive period will be pivotal,” said Pullan, adding that the company is also anticipating double-digit growth in premium segments like its Galaxy Fold and Galaxy S series, compared to the previous year’s festive sales.
Samsung’s Market Position
As of Q1 2025, Samsung was the second-largest smartphone brand in India by both value and volume, according to Counterpoint Research.
Globally, the company maintained its lead in smartphone shipments with a 20% market share during the same period, as per another Counterpoint report.
