BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani stated during a press briefing that proper revenue generation and effective cash-flow management would reduce the need to use reserve funds. The administration emphasized fiscal discipline and completion of major civic projects across the city.
The budget also includes investments in education, health services, environmental projects, and civic infrastructure aimed at improving public services in Mumbai.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) presented its Budget for the financial year 2026–27 on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, proposing a total outlay of ₹80,952.56 crore, a notable increase from ₹74,427.41 crore allocated in 2025–26.
BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani presented the budget, which includes a capital expenditure plan of ₹48,164.28 crore, representing an increase of approximately 11.59% compared to the revised estimate of ₹39,159.51 crore for the previous financial year.
The civic body has proposed ₹32,698.44 crore for revenue expenditure in 2026–27, marking a rise of nearly 15.71% from the revised estimate of ₹28,257.91 crore for 2025–26.
Speaking to the media after the budget presentation, Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani emphasized the importance of efficient financial management, stating that reserve funds may not be required if revenue generation remains strong and cash flow is properly maintained.
