Bihar Election 2025 Live: NDA Secures 202 Seats in Historic Victory; CM Selection Still Undecided as Chirag Paswan Meets Nitish Kumar
Despite massive win, suspense continues over the next Chief Minister; BJP becomes single-largest party, JD(U) displays remarkable comeback, RJD registers highest vote share but suffers major setbac
Patna, November 15, 2025:
The state of Bihar witnessed an intense, high-voltage electoral battle in the 2025 Assembly Elections, culminating in a thumping victory for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which won 202 seats out of 243, marking one of the most decisive mandates in the state’s recent electoral history. However, even after the landslide win, the name of the next Chief Minister remains officially unannounced, adding political suspense and intrigue.
The elections were conducted in two phases — November 6 and November 11, and results were declared on November 14.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the single-largest party, securing 89 out of 101 seats, improving its performance compared to the 74 seats secured in the 2020 elections. Alongside, Janata Dal (United), led by Nitish Kumar, pulled off a remarkable resurgence by winning 85 seats, a sharp rise from 45 seats in 2020, re-establishing itself as a dominant regional force.
Meanwhile, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), led by Chirag Paswan, stunned several political observers by winning 19 out of 29 seats, strengthening its relevance and impact in Bihar politics.
The opposition suffered massive setbacks. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), led by Tejashwi Yadav, could win only 25 seats, far below its 75-seat tally in the 2020 elections. Congress also performed poorly, winning only six seats.
Despite the loss, the RJD recorded the highest vote share in the state, followed by BJP and JD(U), showing that vote percentage did not translate into seat gain — a classic case of vote share vs vote distribution imbalance.
Major Post-Result Developments
✔️ A high-profile meeting took place between Chirag Paswan and Nitish Kumar, indicating ongoing power-structure negotiations and alliance coordination. Paswan stated that their meeting was aimed at conveying congratulations and maintaining coalition solidarity.
✔️ BJP’s Bihar unit suspended former Union Minister RK Singh, accusing him of “anti-party activities.”
✔️ The election also recorded three constituencies where the victory margin was below 100 votes — showcasing how close and unpredictable some contests were.
✔️ Jan Suraaj Party, led by Prashant Kishor, failed to open its account, despite heavy campaigning and positioning itself as a third alternative.
