The first day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament witnessed chaos in the Lok Sabha, leading to an adjournment as Opposition parties demanded a detailed clarification on Operation Sindoor, a recent military operation hailed as a major victory. Ahead of the session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the media, calling this session a celebration of India’s brave soldiers who led the operation. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju noted that the final decision regarding debates and discussions will be made by the Business Advisory Committees of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
Govt Open to Discussing Operation Sindoor, But Within Parliamentary Rules
Ahead of the Monsoon Session starting Monday, July 21, 2025, the government has expressed willingness to discuss all pressing issues, including Operation Sindoor, in Parliament. This assurance came during an all-party meeting held on Sunday. However, the government emphasized that any debate must adhere to Parliamentary rules and procedures.
During the meeting, Opposition parties demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally respond on Operation Sindoor and address U.S. President Donald Trump’s repeated assertions of mediating peace between India and Pakistan. They also called for a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls currently underway in Bihar.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju reiterated that the Business Advisory Committees of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will decide the agenda and format of discussions. The Monsoon Session will comprise 21 sittings.
