Mock Drills Planned in Nearly 300 Districts Housing Vital Installations Across India
In a major nationwide civil defence initiative, close to 300 districts identified as housing critical infrastructure — including nuclear power plants, military bases, oil refineries, and hydroelectric dams — will soon conduct comprehensive mock drills aimed at preparing civilians and authorities for potential hostile attacks.
The exercises will simulate air-raid scenarios, include training for civilians, and focus on the cleaning and maintenance of existing bunkers and trenches, according to official sources.
The plan was discussed in detail during a high-level meeting chaired by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, with participation from senior civil and police officials from across the country. The meeting focused on ensuring public engagement in the drills, which will test preparedness at both institutional and community levels.
Authorities in all states have been directed to actively involve students, employees of government and private organisations, healthcare workers, railway and metro staff, and uniformed personnel from the police, paramilitary, and armed forces in the exercise.
The mock drills are part of a broader effort to enhance readiness around sensitive and strategic sites amid evolving national security challenges.
