📰 Second Arrest Made in Attack on Delhi CM Rekha Gupta: Who is Tahseen Syed?
New Delhi, August 25, 2025 — In a major development in the assault case of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi Police on Sunday arrested a second suspect, identified as Tahseen Syed, from Rajkot, Gujarat. This arrest comes days after the first accused, Rajesh Khimji, was taken into custody for allegedly attacking the Chief Minister at her Civil Lines residence.
According to officials quoted by ANI, Syed is believed to have funded the attack by transferring money to the main accused and maintaining regular communication with him before the incident.
🔎 Who is Tahseen Syed?
As per the police, Tahseen Syed is an auto-rickshaw driver and a resident of Rajkot, Gujarat. He is a known associate of the prime accused, Rajesh Khimji, and allegedly played a financial and communicative role in the lead-up to the assault.
“Syed had transferred ₹2,000 to Khimji and was in constant contact with him,” a senior police official stated.
“Before the attack, Khimji had shared a video of Rekha Gupta’s Shalimar Bagh residence with Syed,” sources told NDTV.
Syed was brought to Delhi on Friday for detailed interrogation and has reportedly admitted to the transaction, though the motive behind the assault remains under investigation.
🚨 The Attack on Rekha Gupta
On August 20, CM Rekha Gupta was physically assaulted during a ‘Jan Sunwai’ (public hearing) programme at her Civil Lines residence. The attacker, Rajesh Khimji, reportedly slapped the Chief Minister and pulled her hair before security personnel intervened and overpowered him.
Khimji, also from Rajkot, was arrested at the scene and has since been remanded to five-day police custody. The incident shocked the political establishment and prompted immediate calls for stronger CM-level security protocols.
📱 Delhi Police Deepens Probe With Digital Evidence
As the investigation expands, the Delhi Police have intensified technical analysis, retrieving dump data from mobile towers near both Gupta’s personal and official residences. This data provides information about all mobile devices active in the area during specific time windows and is crucial in tracking movements and identifying possible accomplices.
“We’re examining whether Khimji acted alone or had other support on the ground,” an official familiar with the investigation told ANI.
In addition, officials are combing through:
- CCTV footage from surrounding areas
- Security logs and visitor entries at the CM’s residences
- Mobile call records and chat history of both accused
Police believe these efforts will help reconstruct the timeline of the incident, verify the accused’s claims, and expose any external conspirators or facilitators.
🛡️ Security Measures Under Scrutiny
Following the attack, CM Gupta’s first image post-assault surfaced over the weekend, showing her recovering and continuing administrative duties. Meanwhile, internal reviews are underway to evaluate any lapses in CM-level security arrangements during the Jan Sunwai.
Police teams are working in tandem with state security officers to:
- Cross-reference interrogation details with technical findings
- Identify unauthorised entries or device activity in the vicinity
- Determine if the attack was a premeditated conspiracy
📌 What’s Next?
The arrest of Tahseen Syed has opened up new angles in the case, indicating that the attack may not have been an isolated act of rage, but possibly part of a coordinated plan.
As digital forensics and interrogation continue, more arrests could follow. Officials have not ruled out the involvement of a larger network or political motivation behind the attack.
