The call for a nationwide ‘Bharat Bandh’ on August 21 has created ripples in political and social circles. Meanwhile, the police administration has also appealed for peaceful protests.
Call for Bharat Bandh
The Bharat Bandh has been called mainly over the government’s action on the recent Hema Committee report and its recommendations. The report had highlighted several serious issues in matters of women’s rights and safety, and has demanded immediate action on it. The protest will continue till the government takes effective steps, he said.
The statement issued by different organizations said that on August 21, there will be massive rallies and marches in the capital Delhi and other major cities. The protesters took to the streets and raised slogans in support of their demands.

In a press conference, the Delhi Police Commissioner appealed to all citizens to protest peacefully. The police have made elaborate security arrangements and special instructions have been given to the forces deployed in the city. “We request everyone to demonstrate peacefully for their rights. Police are on high alert to maintain law and order.”
The commissioner has also warned that any kind of violence or disorder will not be tolerated and strict action will be taken against those who go against the law
